Finalists Chosen – 2010 Young Artist Competition for Oboe
The finalists of the 2010 Young Artist Competition for Oboe have been chosen.
The three finalists (listed alphabetically) are:
Gina Ford, a student of Erin Hannigan at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, USA
Camille Joutard, a student of Jean-Louis Capezzali and Jérôme Guichard at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Lyon, France
Matt Lengas, a student of Richard Killmer at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, USA
The designated alternate is:
John Upton, a student of Richard Killmer at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, USA. UPDATE: JOHN UPTON IS THE WINNER OF THE COMPETITION. CONGRATUALTIONS JOHN!
The finalists will perform in the final round, which will be held Thursday morning, June 24, 2010 at IDRS2010 at the University of Oklahoma, Norman, OK, USA. The winner of the competition will perform a recital on Friday morning, June 25, 2010 at IDRS2010.
The preliminary round judges were:
Washington Barella, Solooboist of the SWR Sinfonieorchester Baden-Baden und Freiburg; Visiting Professor at the Hochschule für Musik Köln
Dr. Doris DeLoach, Professor of Oboe, Baylor University, Waco, Texas
Dr. Rebecca Schalk Nagel, Professor of Oboe, University of South Carolina; principal oboe, South Carolina Philharmonic.
The IDRS extends its thanks to the preliminary round judges, the candidates who submitted recordings for consideration, and their teachers.
